Welcome to the John and Barbara Wilson Website

About Us

June 1969 . . . Manhattan, Kansas . . . we met when Barb returned from teaching 4th Grade in Grand Junction, Colorado. She planned to spend the summer in Manhattan with her parents prior to moving to Kansas City to accept a new teaching position. John had just graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant from Army Infantry Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas when he rented a basement apartment across the street from Barb's parents in Manhattan.

The rest is history . . . we met in June, married in September, and moved to Abilene, Kansas where Barb had secured a new teaching assignment at Garfield Elementary School after getting out of her Kansas City contract. John left for Vietnam in December. We saw each other for a few short days in August on R&R in Hawaii, then John returned to Vietnam to complete his tour and safely return to the good old U.S.A. in December 1970 just in time for Christmas.

We lived in Abilene, Kansas for 14 years, moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1983 when John accepted a promotion to management with his employer. Barb taught in the Millard Public Schools in Omaha from 1983 to 2007 and retired with a total of 39 years of teaching experience.

The first addition to our family was a daughter, Jessica, born in 1974; a second daughter, Rachael, was born in 1978.  John and Barb live in Corte Bella Country Club located in the Northwest Valley of the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. Jessica resides in Texas and Rachael lives in Arizona.
