The new year is off to fast start. Rachael and Jessica were both here for Christmas, then there's taking down the exterior holiday lights, the Christmas tree and other decorations. Each year we pledge to rummage through "the stuff" and make decisions on what is a keeper and what is to be tossed  . .  and each year we somehow wind up with more "stuff".

New Year's Eve day we met Bob & Bonnie Mummey for an afternoon meal, then retired to our house for the evening. Lots of excitement!

On the 2nd we went to Zipp's Sports Bar in Glendale to watch the Alamo Bowl - Kansas State vs. UCLA - and presented with a KSU loss 40-35. Downton Abbey started its new season on the 4th and we were glad to see the new episodes.

Barb continues with her weekly Canasta group and several charitable groups within Corte Bella; John has his weekly men's bocce group.

John has been appealing a Medicare denial of payment issue since August 2013 when an ambulance transport was required post neck surgery. The first and second appeals were denied and the third, on January 5th, was by telephone with an Administrative Law Judge in Arlington, Virginia. Short call! The judge ruled in my favor and Medicare will pay up! Take that, Medicare.

On the 7th, John and Bob Mummey hiked along some trails in Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve. A beautiful day with a record high of 80°.

For example, here's John flexing the puny bicep he has left.

And here's a rock formation which looks like a "butt".

On the 12th we attended the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction & Show in Scottsdale courtesy of free tickets through Vet-Tix.

Here we are with Bob and Bonnie Mummey at the the Thunderbird Artists Wine and Art Festival in Cave Creek on the 17th. Beautiful day at 73º and sunny!

We kicked off February watching a great Super Bowl game at a party here in Corte Bella . . . too much food!

Barb and I had a great dinner on Valentine's Day at Charleston's Restaurant in Scottsdale.

On the 22nd we met Rachael in Chandler for a much ballyhooed antique sale which was nothing more than an unglorified garage sale  . . . so, we went to lunch and spent the afternoon at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens.

Over the weekend of the 28th/29th we drove to Yuma for the Yuma Lettuce Days festival. I know  . .  you can hardly contain yourself for the excitement! We were able to visit with Barb's cousin, Suzan, while there and we took in a tour of the Yuma Territorial Prison to see what prison life was like back in the late 1800's. A quick summary  . . . life in prison was not all that great! We stayed at the Quechan Casino Resort in Winterhaven, California, just a few miles west of Yuma. Neither life in the Yuma Territorial Prison nor the slots at the "Q", as it is called, were kind.

Hotter than normal temps early this month set a few records and hit 91° on the 16th. Makes us wonder if we will be reduced to ashes in some cataclysmic event in July and August! Got the A/C chedked - all OK there!

We met Rachael at the Litchfield Park Art Festival on the 8th. This is very enjoyable venue for this type of event held at the historic Wigwam Resort.

The 10th was the final free concert of the Spring season at the Wigwam Resort. Beautiful clear skies and warm evening with great music. Can't wait for the Fall concerts to begin!

The 13th brought the "season finale" for the Corte Bella Drop Toppers, our local convertible owners' group. Many members are "snowbirds" and are leaving the desert for their home turf. We enjoyed an early evening on the golf club's patio with food from the grill.

On the 19th we picked Rachael up in Tempe and drove to the Queen Creek Olive Mill where we listened to outdoor music, had a snack and visited the "company store".

On the 5th we attended a Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour at the Anacapa Restaurant here in Corte Bella. A tad warm for early May, but that didn't stop a large turnout which overwhelmed the staff.

John had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands mid-month and is getting back to normal, but still needs some work on his left index finger for "trigger finger" issues.

On the 8th we attended a Moody Blues concert at Talking Stick Resort and Casino in Scottsdale.

Mothers Day was spent in Sedona where John, Barb and Rachael enjoyed a nice outdoor brunch, a stroll through downtown and a side trip to Cliff Castle Casino.

Happy 37th Birthday to Rachael on the 29th!

We celebrated Bonnie Mummey's birthday on the 4th, Jessica and Rachael were here on the 6th and 7th and we spent a fun evening at John and Anita Hendee's on the 22nd along with John and Kathy Bailey. Other than that, there isn't much to report! No trips, no Miata runs  . .  just hot and dry! On to July . . .

Another quiet month! On the 11th we participated in a rally with the Sahauro Miata Club up the Beeline Highway to Payson where we had lunch at Gerardo's Fireside Cafe. There's a lot of winding, "twisty" roadway from here to there and back again. Don't gawk at the scenery when zooming by or you might become part of the scenery!

On the 8th John, Barb and Rachael drove up to Prescott for an Arts and Crafts fair. It's a great venue around the old courthouse square and Prescott is home to many music and art shows throughout the year.

Have I mentioned that August is a VERY hot month! A picture is worth a thousand words  . .  or drops of sweat. The 14th was a scorcher!

September brings somewhat cooler temperatures, although the humidity is up and the "monsoon season" isn't over yet. It also brings football - and KSU had a good win - and Nebraska got zapped in the last seconds of their first game.

Our 46th anniversary is on the 13th. Lots of years, lots of love!

We spent the 17th through the 20th in San Diego at the annual Delano Kindred reunion. John hopes to make new connections and get advice on tracking down the birth certificate/registration of his paternal great-great grandmother, Margaret Delano who is related to Sarah Delano, FDR's mother.

During the last week of the month Barb met three Omaha girlfriends in Charleston, South Carolina for an "all-girls vacation". Accompanied by Kathy, Susan and Lynn, she toured many of the city's sights and just missed the big storm, rain and flooding which occurred the following week.

Happy Birthday to Barb on the 1st and Jessica on the 31st. We have October covered.

On the 9th we used our free VETTIX tickets to attend a John Lennon 75th Birthday tribute band concert at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix along with Rachael and her friend, Andy Warycka. Great music! Good times!

The rest of the month was filled in with some social activities now that the "snowbirds" are back in residence  . . . and watching Kansas State and Nebraska football. On the 26th we hosted a party attended by about 30 friends and neighbors  . .  warm temps and clear skies contributed to a fun night.

November started out with us NOT having to adjust everything for the end of Daylight Saving Time since we do not observe it. No hassle, Spring or Fall.

The 8th found us in Litchfield Park at one of their art festivals. Lots of product offerings and food  . . .oh, and that continually great weather!

The end of the year is rapidly approaching  . .  2015 F-L-E-W by! It will be great to have both girls here for Christmas.
